On August 6th, 1955 the one millionth beetle was produced and celebrated with great fanfare. By 1965, VW was producing over a one million beetles a year. Total beetle production at the Wolfsburg factory in 1955 was 279,986; and only 30,928 were exported to North America. In October 1955 Volkswagen of America (VWoA) was established.
